Congratulations! If you're moving to Holland, or considering it, you've found a great city to call home.

Friendly neighborhoods, great schools, beautiful parks and myriad cultural activities are just a few of the highlights you'll find here. If you're not familiar with the area, you may be surprised at exactly how much this city has in store for you.

Recreation

Situated on beautiful Lake Michigan, Holland is a unique city featuring spectacular colored sunsets over the glistening water of Lake Michigan, rolling sand dunes, quaint shops, and so much more. Our Lake Michigan beaches are among the most beautiful in the world. Lake Macatawa and Lake Michigan offer a wide variety of water activities: fishing, swimming and boating. You can play golf on one of our many fine courses, have a game of tennis, picnic in our parks, explore our antique shops and enjoy summer theatre at its best. To top your cultural interest, the area offers numerous museums, symphonies, live theatres and art galleries. Whatever your recreational desire, the Holland area has something for you!

   Holland's annual Tulip Time Festival

A popular indoor facility that's becoming even more fun is Holland's Community Aquatic Center. The public center features an indoor, six-lane pool and diving area. With the completion of a major addition, that facility expands to include a new eight-lane, 50-meter pool, large spa, therapy pool, locker rooms, fitness room and multi-purpose meeting room.

The City of Holland, Holland Charter Township and Park Township have active recreational departments that coordinate recreational and educational activities throughout the year. Kids of all ages can learn and participate in golf, swimming, tennis, gymnastics, youth soccer, T-ball, basketball, shuffleboard, softball, touch football, volleyball and fitness.

The Holland area has a dozen public and private golf courses. The rolling, dune-based topography of the region results in challenging and picturesque opportunities.

Outdoor recreation in Holland is just as fun in the winter. The area averages 75 inches of snow per year, just right to enjoy the area's many miles of cross country and snowmobilie trails.

Culture

Holland's cultural scene is a lot like a spring tulip garden. Blossoming and full of color, Holland's museums, annual festivals, events and special exhibits reflect the community's multi-cultural composition. Community residents celebrate their diversity throughout the year with events ranging from the annual Cinco de May observance to the world famous Tulip Time Festival.

A leader in the promotion of the arts is the Holland Area Arts Council, a civic organization that coordinates a full calendar of classes, events and arts activities. The Arts Council continues to grow, and its new 7,000-square-foot downtown Holland facility hosts children's and adult education programs in dance, music, drama, pottery, photography and other visual and performing arts. Among projects the Council sponsors is the Michigan Art Competition, an annual juried show that attracts upwards of 50 artists.

Another annual Arts Council-sponsored event is the Holland Summer Festival of the Arts. From mid-June through September, the Festival comprises some 30 different events, including concerts, puppet shows, story-telling and art workshops.

Holland's best-known cultural event is the annual Tulip Time Festival. The annual May event traces its roots to 1927, and over the years it has grown to include wooden-shoe-clad "klompen" dancers, an authentic Dutch street scrubbing parade, a grand street parade, a children's costume parade and a variety of other entertainment. Today, Tulip Time spans ten days, and has become the country's 5th largest annual festival.

Holland's location on Lake Michigan makes boating a popular recreation among its residents.
